Initiatives for a clean, secure energy future
At GEA design work has included business cards, a range of internal documents such as board papers and letterheads, and external documents such as informational handouts and brochures for both GEA’s Member and Associate companies and public consideration, yearly Annual Reports and more. In one such project I was responsible for designing a document for external clients called “Initiatives for a clean, secure energy future”. The Policy Manager wanted something new and fresh, and to move away from a previous cover design which had been used for several years at this point and was causing confusion internally and externally. This previous design did not accurately reflect the values and direction of the agency.
The Policy Manager provided me with examples of the style and design direction she would like to go in. I mocked up some rough designs and colour options in Illustrator, which I then presented to our CEO for input regarding design direction and any clashing design priorities. The CEO appreciated the new design direction but raised concerns that it stepped too far away from existing organisational designs and branding.
I led discussions on how to maintain current organisational design and branding, while also implementing the new design elements proposed. It was agreed that priority should be given to keeping our logo clearly presented, keeping the companies official fonts and the internal layout consistent to other documents.
I then designed two alternate solutions in InDesign, incorporating elements of the new suggested design along with elements from our previous style guide. I presented to both the CEO and Policy Manager to choose a design to move forward with, they were in agreement of their preferred option. This newly designed document was then taken to meetings with members and other external parties, where it was met with generally positive feedback. My work led to a change in our design language, and my design laid the groundwork for our document style moving forward.
